Sermorelin Peptide Overview
Sermorelin is a 29 amino acid peptide and the shortest synthetically developed fragment of the growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) that retains biological activity. It acts as a GHRH analog, binding to receptors in the pituitary gland to stimulate the secretion of growth hormone (hGH). This process is thought to increase levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Its estimated half-life is approximately 11 to 12 minutes.

Research and Clinical Studies
- Mechanism of Action: Research suggests Sermorelin triggers the cAMP-PKA signaling cascade upon binding to GHRH receptors, which promotes the release of hGH from the pituitary gland.
- Growth Velocity: Studies in animal models with growth deficiency reported increased growth and height velocity sustained over 36 months of continuous use.
- Anabolic Research: Investigations have noted potential increases in GH levels (up to 107%) and IGF-1 levels (around 28%). One study suggested a gain in lean body mass of approximately 2.78 lbs (1.26 kg) and a significant increase in skin thickness.
- Lipodystrophy: In a study of HIV-positive subjects with lipodystrophy, Sermorelin was linked to increased lean body mass and a significant reduction in abdominal visceral fat without affecting glucose or insulin levels.
- Cognition: Research involving older adults suggested improved cognitive performance on intelligence scales (WAIS) following the introduction of the peptide.
- Tumor Cells: One clinical study on glioma subjects suggested that Sermorelin might block tumor cell cycles, potentially preventing cell proliferation.
- Hypogonadism: Early research indicated that Sermorelin might stimulate the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which could potentially stimulate testosterone production.
