BPC-157 Peptide Overview
The BPC-157 peptide, also known as Pentadecapeptide BPC 157 or Body Protection Compound 157, is a synthetic compound composed of 15 amino acids. Research suggests it may assist with healing joint, tendon, muscle, nerve, and gastrointestinal tissues. It is an amino acid fragment isolated from gastric juice.
Research and Clinical Studies
- Wound Healing: Studies in murine models reported higher levels of collagen and blood vessel development (angiogenesis) when treated with BPC-157. It may enhance the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
- Tendon Healing: Research indicates the peptide promotes the outgrowth and migration of tendon fibroblasts via the activation of the FAK-paxillin pathway.
- Gastrointestinal Healing: BPC-157 has shown consistent results in healing various wound types in the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, and lower GI tract.
- Muscle and Tissue Damage: In studies with injured muscle complexes, BPC-157 appeared to exhibit signs of healing and restoration of function, even when healing was impaired by corticosteroids.
- Central Nervous System: Experimental models of traumatic brain injury (TBI) showed reduced damage and lower mortality rates when BPC-157 was administered.
