Epithalon Peptide Overview
Epithalon (also known as AEDG peptide or Epitalon) is a synthetic tetrapeptide composed of the amino acids Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. It is a synthetic version of Epithalamin, which is naturally produced in the pineal gland. Research suggests it may regulate the function of the brain, pineal gland, and retina, potentially influencing sleep through melatonin production and exhibiting antioxidant properties.
Chemical Makeup
- Molecular Formula: C14H22N4O9
- Molecular Weight: 390.34 g/mol
- Other Names: Epitalon, Epithalone, AEDG peptide
Research and Clinical Studies
- Longevity and Gene Expression: Studies suggest the peptide binds with histones to modulate gene expression and may induce neuronal cell differentiation in retinal and periodontal ligament stem cells.
- Oxidative Stress: Research indicates it may reduce intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in aged oocyte cells, potentially preserving mitochondrial function and reducing DNA damage.
- Anti-Aging: Experiments suggest it may inhibit the synthesis of MM-9 and Caspase-3 (an enzyme involved in cell death), potentially supporting cellular longevity and regeneration.
- Telomere Restoration: In fetal fibroblastic cell studies, Epithalon appeared to stimulate telomere development, allowing cells to exceed the Hayflick limit and undergo extra divisions.
- Organ and System Impact:
- Immune System: May activate ribosomal genes in aging lymphocytic cells.
- Cancer Research: Preliminary murine models suggested potential anti-metastatic actions in certain tumor types.
- Vision: Clinical studies in geriatric subjects noted improvements in retinal bioelectric activity and morphological structure.
- Endocrine System: Suggested to normalize melatonin rhythms in aging models and restore thymus gland morphology.
- Geroprotective Properties: A long-term study on elderly subjects suggested that Epithalon, especially when combined with Thymalin, might help restore basic bodily functions and significantly decrease mortality rates.
